The International Yemeni Film & Arts Festival

The Yemeni Spring of 2011 provoked an enormous artistic and intellectual outpouring. Film productions of young activists carried images of the Yemeni protests to the world. In this way, Yemen and its affairs gained a wider global audience. To promote this growing awareness of Yemen and its art, the GYS organizes the International Yemeni Arts & Film Festival in Germany.

The International Yemeni Arts & Film Festival is the cornerstone of the Artistic Outreach program of the Yemen Peace Project, an American NGO that advocates for a better understanding of Yemen and the Yemeni society in the US. In 2014, the festival was held in Aden, Sana’a, Los Angeles, New York, Washington DC, Berkeley and London. In 2015, the German-Yemeni Society brought the festival to Germany for the first time.

The aim of the festival is the promotion of Yemeni artists and filmmakers who only rarely find opportunities to present their work in and outside of Yemen. The festival also aims to promote a better understanding of Yemeni society and politics to Germany and to bring Yemen closer to a global public.
